Privacy Policy

Somebody has to write this page, and it might as well be honest and mostly painless to read. Here's the deal.

The Short Version

We collect the data we need to run EVMetrics, we protect it properly, and we will never sell, rent, trade, or otherwise hand your data over to marketers, advertisers, or data brokers. Not for money, not for a nice fruit basket, not ever. If you came here looking for the fine print where we secretly reserve the right to spam you about extended warranties, you can stop looking. It's not here.

What We Collect

When you sign up, we ask for:

• Your email address and a password (which we hash — we never store it in plain text, and honestly couldn't tell you what it is if we tried).
• A display name, which is shown next to any drives you log, visible to anyone browsing EVMetrics. Choose wisely.
• Your state, because we're curious about where EVs are getting driven — that's genuinely all the address we ask for.

When you use the app, we also store:

• Any vehicles you add to your garage.
• Any drives you log by hand, or sync automatically if you connect a Tessie account (distance, duration, efficiency, temperature, and — if synced — Tessie's own trip data like starting/ending location and speed).
• Your Tessie access token, if you connect one, encrypted at rest. We use it only to fetch drive data from Tessie's API on your behalf, and for nothing else.

What We Will Never Do

We will not sell, rent, share, or otherwise monetize your personal data by handing it to marketing companies, ad networks, or data brokers. We don't have a "trusted partners" list, because we don't have trusted partners in that sense. If that's ever not true, assume someone hijacked this page — not that we changed our minds.

Who Actually Sees Your Data

• Cloudflare hosts the app and the database. They see what any host sees — nothing more.
• Tessie, only if you connect your own account, and only because you're the one asking us to talk to them on your behalf.
• Other EVMetrics users, in a limited way: drive stats are crowdsourced, so your display name and drive figures for a given vehicle are visible to anyone browsing that vehicle's page. Your email, password, and Tessie token are never shown to anyone but you.

Cookies

One cookie, to keep you logged in. No ad trackers, no cross-site fingerprinting, no mysterious third-party pixels.

Security

Passwords are hashed. Tessie tokens are encrypted. We take reasonable steps to keep your data safe, but no website can promise perfect security, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.
